Zack Blog #1

Personal Challenges:
1) Eat only local foods
2) Shorter showers
3) Use computer only for school work
4) Be a vegetarian

Class Challenge:
Keep lights off during school

Since this is my first day participating in the low impact challenge I haven't really been able to experiment with my newly created challenges. All I can blog about are my thoughts on the future hardships I'm going to face in the next two weeks. Eating only local foods is most likely going to be the hardest challenge for me because I love buying mass produced products such as soda and candy. Shorter showers is something I've been progressively working on throughout the year and while it's hard I don't think it'll kill me, same goes for the computer usage. For anyone who knows me, being a vegetarian is a near suicidal endeavor for such a meat loving eater such as myself. I'm nervous about these next two weeks, but hopefully I'll gain some healthier more ecologically friendly habits in the process.

Part 2:

This week I was surprised to learn that fish from western countries is shipped to China to be filleted and is then reshipped back to the west. This surprised me because I figured that so much shipping would be economically expensive, but in all actuality it is cheaper. I haven't really taken away anything from this week in terms of lessons that will help me later on in life, I think most of my "enduring understandings" will come from progressing with my low impact challenges.
