Letsa Go!

My Current Challenges:

1. No fans, heat, a/c. Only use natural cooling and heating.
2. Shorter showers for less water consumption.
3. No paper napkins or paper towels.
4. Hypermiling (slow acceleration, lower cruise speeds, overall trying to get better MPG).

Class Challenge:

• Limited lights. Natural lighting during the day. No unnecessary lights.

Friday seemed to be the same as every other day. Nothing really new from the first 3 challenges. Driving has changed some. I noticed now that I effect other's by slowing my own speeds. They get stuck behind me going slower, and have to slow down too. I had 10 cars behind me at one point. They were all forced to the 1/2 speed limit I was using. I also effect their moods.... but I wont go there. It's an interesting concept, forcing others to change their ways when you change your own. I can see this as a positive and negative. I am helping to save gas, even saving them money, but I also infringe on their rights to live how they like. I guess I am not really infringing on their rights while they are driving, but taking this to a larger scale could be a problem. If we begin to control people's way of life, their rights will be a sacrifice. Are we as a country willing to take away some rights to insure safety? And what if either way someone's rights are sacrificed. If we stay how we currently are, that too could cause infringement on people's right to live the way they want to, have infringe on their right to a secure and safe living. This seems to be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

The Environmental Fact O-Day:

Enough glass was thrown away in 1990 to fill the Twin Towers (1,350 feet high) of New York's World Trade Center every two weeks.
