Whenever I last blogged I decided I was changing some of my challenges but I believe I lied about part of it, so my challenges are now:
1) less meat
2)Still recycling
3)Radio not on 24/7
4)No Styrofoam containers
I decided to change not using new plastic bags to eating less meat because I use plastic bags way to often and I don't really eat all that much meat anyways.
So for this weekend overall I didn't do to well with my challenges. I ate less meat than I usually would have but it wasn't hard and I didn't think about it until now and definitely not craving it. I wasn't home for a majority of the weekend and because of my mothers lack of cooking skills and her laziness we ate most meals out of the house this weekend. Since I ate most of my meals out or didn't eat much besides granola bars I didn't have anything to recycle. I did however have a large amount of energy drinks but I was on the road yesterday and I just threw them out instead of recycling them. Radio not being on 24/7 has gotten harder because yesterday I moved it back into my bedroom. So I had the stereo on all night and I believe as I type this pointless blog that the stereo remains on in my bedroom. No Styrofoam containers I also failed at this weekend. I ate ice cream out of a Styrofoam bowl and I took home some food from a restaurant this weekend in a Styrofoam container.
Lights off challenge I'm not doing well at either. I always have lights on even if they aren't needed. On the first day of the challenge I tried to turn them off but now not so much. I think I'm not used to turning off lights plus I don't see how it will do anything so I'm not committed enough to try.
In general I'm not feeling very invested in this project because I don't see it doing much of anything in the long run. By saying this project wont do anything I mean environmentally our "low impact challenge" wont be helping enough to be noticed. However the project may raise awareness for the people in our division as to how they can do something to help the environment. So our division may become more aware of things they can do to help the environment, but this specific two week project isn't going to help the environment enough for us to get excited about.
The final project for our "low impact" challenge seems pretty pointless as well. Nothing directed at the people in my group but I ultimitlly, dont seeing hte final project work out to well. No one really seems to be on the same page about the final product. It seems like the videos are going to be one of two extremes: either its going to be funny and entertaining or its going to be informative and meet the rubrics standards. Personally it seems that the final project was choosen because it's easy and some people will find it fun. It seems like it was just choosen to be an easy final project for the seniors. I'm not complaining that the final project is easy but rather it seems pointless and I dont see it working out. I dont think anyone is on the same page for the project and in turn I dont see it going over very well. It seems like the teachers are trying to give us enough time to do this but I think it's going to be alot of scrambling at the last minute. The scrambling at last minute is going to make this project more stressful than if we did independent projects, and in turn the final product is going to be less than adequate.

Just a thought: if you use plastic bags so much, maybe that would be a good challenge to keep. Since, you know, it's a "challenge." It shouldn't be too easy.
ReplyDeleteEschew pessimism! These videos will be as good as each group makes them. And probably better than a powerpoint.
