Day 1: and here we go...

My personal challenges:
- no makeup
- reusing bags and bottles
- turning off all unnecessary lights
- eating all locally/organically grown food my parents are willing to buy

How it's going to far:
Last night wasn't too difficult. I didn't have to wear makeup, didn't have any need for bags or bottles and my dad made dinner from local veggies. The only issue. Lights. I am terrified of the dark, I always needs at least one main light on near my room before I can even begin to think of sleeping. My mother (a major energy conserving fanatic) has been trying for years to get me to sleep in the dark, even with just a night light. Nothing works. So last night I sat up for three extra hours trying to push through without lights but, there was too much creaking and thumping from the house settling and my cats jumping around. I caved and flicked on the hallway light (which! might I add, is one of those energy saving light bulbs!).
This morning I was very good about avoiding the makeup (despite the lack-of-sleep puffy eyes) and I did pretty well with the lights although I did forget when I was in the shower and turned on the little light inside there. When packing my lunch I reused one of the hundred or so plastic baggys my mom has been saving for years. Despite it's environmentally friendly packaging my lunch is not local. It's a bagel. From I don't know where.
That's how my first not-quite-complete-day of personal challenges has gone.
