Ayla Can't Recycle For Some Reason

Yesterday I decided that the four things I would do to contribute to the low impact challenge would be:

1. Composting
2. Recycling
3. No take out containers I can't recycle... i.e. no Styrofoam, no non-recyclable plastics.
4. No paper waste that can be spared... i.e. do my homework online only, but I can still use toilet paper.

Oh yeah. And the class one, too... So, that's actually five. Whoops.

5. Turn off all lights that aren't COMPLETELY necessary.

Egh. So, there's a reason "getting dressed in the dark" is used to describe bad choice in outfits... Yeah, my pajamas were inside out and backwards last night. Merrrrr. I went around the house last night shutting off all the lights, and then I come back into the kitchen, and there's my mom, sitting at the kitchen with ALL THREE of the lights in the kitchen on... Bummer. So I shut two of them off, and she begrudgingly let me... That goal has been okay, it just hasn't been perfect. I need to adjust my parents to semi-darkness.

However, two of my goals have been pretty straightforward and easy. My family sort of composts already, so that's easier to accomplish, but I have been nagging them about food scraps, and separating compostables :) And the recycling thing is pretty easy, too, since we already put that stuff aside most of the time. We just have to remember about paper, since we just throw it in the trash a lot.

The, uh, paper waste stuff is... ummm... not going so well. See, I had to do my junior seminar project, which required printing oodles of stuff out, and making *shiver* copies, and cutting things out and throwing away the scraps (which, CRAP, I forgot to recycle... Sigh), and that just wasted SOOOOOOO much paper and, yeah, I kinda forgot about the challenge, and uhhhhh... Yep. So... Not going great, exactly. But it's only the (sort of) second day! Right? I still have time! I'm not a horrible human being... Yet.

I'm a little discouraged by my own stupidity in forgetting this project. Darn me. I should eat more kelp. Imrpoves your memory... Anyway, I'm hoping to do better tomorrow, as I'm feeling very self conscious about my utter inability to singe handedly save the planet. Everyone should be able to recycling a few paper clippings!!!! RIGHT?? Sigh... So, yeah. Now I'm going to go... eat... Chinese food. Dammit. No, I'm not, 'cause it comes in Styrofoam containers. GOSH DARN IT! Stop messing with my meals, Earth!
