Eileen's Challenge

It's been three days since we began our low impact challege. Our group challenge of cutting down on electricity has been really shaky. There are some teachers who are protesting the lights being off. Perhaps it's because this assignment doesn't have anything to do with their calss. Perhaps they just don't like being in an environment that goes against "norms" of using electricity, but either way it becomes difficult to do something when there are members of the community who aren't willing to cooperate.
It seems to mean a lot to the students though. Every time a light is on the students throw mini fits, "Why are the lights on? Who turned them off? Shut them off right now!" I've seen students actually get angry about it. Although I do think some students are making a game of it. It seems that some students only care that they stay off because they get some kind of attention or recognition as being "cool." I mentioned in my philosophy essay that's one of the reasons I don't take more initiative to be "green"...because it's just a trend to people, it doesn't mean anything.
I guess at this moment I'm becoming frustrated. I don't think many people are taking this seriously. I mean, I'll admit that I'm not deathly committed to this assignment. I mean, it's not as if I slipped up then I would be devastated. However I do my best to keep the commitments I've made. No I don't often think about it when I'm doing this or that, but I do think about and choose not to do something if it would be breaking a commitment. Like I said in the first post I made on this assignment...I'm not thrilled about this assignment, but it is an assignment so I'm going to do my best.
